WINTER LIGHT
moon on the snow
belies the hour
reminds me of you
your sparkling mind
strong, never cute

No One Compares to You

I study a world of shapes and values
now and then a painting pushes out:

a cyclist in Washington Square
this child clutching balloons
that woman walking by the window
her graceful arm behind her neck

our model Marie, an Olympian vision
of balance shadow and light --
I draw her as a muse of drama

but when I look at you it’s more than all that.

At the Dock

Let's begin with this imaginary bottle of champagne
I would rather pour a glass for you and me
But convention rules that we smash it against the hull
Of our bonnie boat and wave as she fades into clouds
